Birds Connect Seattle has been coordinating the Seattle count area for over 90 years. This data is compiled by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/conservation\/science\/christmas-bird-count\">National Audubon<\/a>\u00a0and contributes to our understanding of winter bird populations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Climate Watch&#8221; open_toggle_text_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; open_toggle_background_color=&#8221;#FAF5F0&#8243; closed_toggle_text_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; closed_toggle_background_color=&#8221;#FAF5F0&#8243; icon_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; toggle_icon=&#8221;&#x22;||divi||400&#8243; use_icon_font_size=&#8221;on&#8221; icon_font_size=&#8221;18px&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.0&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; toggle_text_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/birdsconnectsea.org\/get-involved\/community-science\/climatewatch\/\">Climate Watch<\/a> is an innovative community-science program that enlists volunteer birders across North America to count certain target species twice each year. Populations here have declined by 75-80% since the mid-90s. Currently the Northern Spotted Owl is protected under the Endangered Species Act. We do this by protecting and enhancing urban habitat, reducing&nbsp;the impacts of the built environment on birds and wildlife, and engaging&nbsp;people in projects that benefit birds, nature, and the neighborhoods we live in.<\/span>\n\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider _builder_version=\"4.7.4\" _module_preset=\"default\"][\/et_pb_divider][et_pb_accordion _builder_version=\"4.7.4\" _module_preset=\"default\" toggle_level=\"h4\"][et_pb_accordion_item title=\"Bird-safe Cities\" open=\"on\" _builder_version=\"4.7.4\" _module_preset=\"default\" link_option_url=\"\/urban-conservation\"]\n\nIn July 2020, Seattle Audubon launched a new strategic plan called&nbsp;<em>Cities at the Center.<\/em>&nbsp;For at least the next three years, we'll be&nbsp;focusing internal resources to drive Seattle-area cities to adopt strategies that reduce urban hazards to birds, prioritizing bird-safe builing practices and reducing anti-coagulant rodenticide use. The planned enhancements&nbsp;would help connect habitat patches from Seattle University up to Volunteer Park&nbsp;through&nbsp;the most densely populated urban village in the Pacific Northwest.\n\n[\/et_pb_accordion_item][\/et_pb_accordion][et_pb_accordion _builder_version=\"4.7.4\" _module_preset=\"default\" toggle_level=\"h4\"][et_pb_accordion_item title=\"Seattle: An Urban Bird Treaty City\" open=\"on\" _builder_version=\"4.7.4\" _module_preset=\"default\"]\n\n<span><img src=\"https:\/\/birdsconnectsea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Partners_1-300x182.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" alt=\"Urban Bird Treaty City\" class=\"wp-image-1024 alignleft size-medium\">In May 2017, Seattle Audubon with partner organizations led Seattle in becoming a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Urban Bird Treaty City. By signing the&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/birds\/grants\/urban-bird-treaty.php\">Urban Bird Treaty<\/a><span>, the city recognizes the importance of protecting urban bird habitat, reducing hazards to migrating birds and connecting people to nature.
