Christmas Bird Count<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Established in 1900, the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is the longest running community science survey in North America. <\/em>Birds Connect Seattle has coordinated the Seattle CBC for over 95 years! Approximately 300 volunteers survey the count circle (15 miles in diameter) centered in downtown Seattle, to identify and count every single wild bird detected. There are 14 sections within the Seattle count circle, each being covered by one or multiple teams of volunteer surveyors. All results are tallied by a count compiler and submitted to the National Audubon Society. The valuable data gathered on wintering bird populations will support important research like the <\/span>3 Billion Birds<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/a>\u00a0report and\u00a0<\/span>other scientific publications<\/strong><\/u><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two Ways to Participate<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In-Field:<\/span> Join a team of birders and count birds along an assigned route. Volunteers who choose this option are typically out for a full day, from 8am-4pm, with some half-day options available.<\/span><\/p>\n

At-Home:<\/span> Stay in the comfort of your own home within the\u00a0Seattle CBC Circle<\/a>, and count the birds that visit your yard or feeder. At-home counters typically count for 60-90 minutes on CBC day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a program of National Audubon<\/a>, a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Birds Connect Seattle administers our local CBC count and submits data to the national effort.<\/p>\n
